SARPE

Hello, coming with an update. I had my appointment with my oral surgeon on February 1, 2017. Before I headed to the office I had to stop by my Orthodontist office in corona to pick up my records. My boyfriend came with me and I was really happy he did, I was a bit nervous for some reason. Got in the office with Dr. Bell, he looked at all of the X-rays, pictures, and molds. After he did that, he explained to me that my pallet was too narrow and that he would have to do a preliminary surgery to widen it. This is what I was dreading to be honest. I was hoping that my pallet would be at a good width so that he could throw that in while he performed my double jaw surgery. I was a bit frustrated by this news, because this meant that obviously the process was going to be a heck of a lot longer. He explained that I would have to get an expander placed on by my orthodontist, and then after a couple weeks he would do the surgery. He also told me that I would have a HUGE GAP between my two front teeth following the surgery. When I say huge, I'm talkin 10 mm HUGE!. My boyfriend couldn't help but laugh, but honestly I was laughing too. I could already hear the jokes that David would be making about my san andreas fault. I would have that gap for at least 3-4 months, and then get my braces on. Geeze this is a lot to take in, but I'm in that mind set of just getting it done. The end result is what's keeping me going. I don't know why but I always blank on questions that I should be asking, so naturally I started thinking of all my questions after I left. I had no idea if I would be covered fully for this surgery, so I've been super stressed about it. That's one of the questions I should have asked!I called Kaiser, and they were able to transfer me to the Head/Neck surgery department. I spoke with one of the ladies and she told me that she was waiting for Dr. Bell to send the letter to my ortho about what will be taking place. I also asked her how it will work coverage wise and she told me that this surgery is completely covered under my plan. I was instantly relieved! She told me that once Dr. Bell and Dr. Kawata are in agreement she will then call me to set up my surgery date! EEEK!
